Out of all that easily available and mostly unsolicited advice dispensed to us on the virtues of getting hitched from our parents, friends, 'well-wishers' and as in India from random passer-bys, literally the only reason that I find plausible is the sadness of being lonely when we are old.
That would definitely suck. Equally and universally for men and women. To that extent, there is gender equality in old-age loneliness. But for some reason my heart instinctively goes out to an old man living alone versus an old lady. Something makes me feel that she would be able to handle herself. But I literally feel like going and starting to cook for that old man already.
Ah well, men perhaps do need women more than women need them.
